ECM Summer Camp - Looking for CITs!
We’re looking for enthusiastic, playful, and responsible teens to join our summer team as Counselors-in-Training (CITs)!
One of the most special parts of our camp community is that many of our CITs were once Explorers themselves — back when they were toddlers! Former campers return years later as mentors and role models for the next generation of young explorers, helping create the warm, imaginative, nature-filled environment that makes our camp so unique.
CITs assist with hikes, snack and lunch times, free exploration in nature, imaginative play, art projects, games, and helping younger children feel included, safe, and engaged throughout the day. They bring enthusiasm, creativity, leadership, and a deep understanding of the camp culture because they grew up in it themselves.
This camp was created when Rebecca noticed a gap in summer programming in SF with her own kids: true free exploration in nature. Even camps that aimed to be “nature camps” often felt overly structured in practice, with children constantly being shuffled from one activity to another. At Explorers’ Camp, mornings begin with hikes, snack time, and lots of unstructured outdoor play and discovery. Afternoons include read-aloud stories, nature art, Dungeons & Dragons role-playing games, and music with guest teacher Dan Fabricant.
We especially encourage Nature Explorers alumni and teens who love working with children, being outdoors, and contributing to a joyful community atmosphere to apply!
Interested in becoming a CIT this summer? We’d love to hear from you. Submit your application and come be part of the adventure!
